We all have excuses for not working out. You must believe me when I tell you that  I was the best excuse maker that ever lived.  One of my biggest reasons preventing me from achieving my fitness goals was that I didn’t have the right clothes. I couldn’t possibly fit in! Nonsense! Today’s blog is about making sure you have the right clothes for your best workouts ever. So, let’s get dressed and get fit!

I told you I was the queen of excuses. Here are some of them that I used (with a straight face) as to why I was unable to exercise:

  • I wasn’t strong
  • The gym was too far away
  • I worked too much

 

But you know what the real reason was? I didn’t have anything to wear. And, that was just not the case, I just didn’t know what to wear for my fitness goals.

Here are five tips to get you started on picking the best workout togs for you:

  1. Find a brand you like. We really are lucky because there are so many options for workout clothes. Do you remember when it was just sweat pants and a sweat shirt? Today yoga pants are Haute fashion, who knew?   Some of my favorite brands are:

Champion

Champion brand is affordable and very comfortable. They have great sales, too.

Athleta 

Part of the Gap, Athleta has a wide variety of workout clothes. It is worth the investment. Their tights are amazing and last a long time.

Eddie Bauer

Believe it or not, Eddie Bauer really has some great options for workout clothes. Not crazy expensive and they are well made.

 

2. Just the basics are necessary. I know, I’m telling you not to over-shop for this! All you need is a good pair of tights, a great sports bra and some tops that you like. For workout tops and bras I like:

Champion

I have been blessed with big boobs which can cause some serious problems working out. I prefer to wear tops with built-in bras and that has proven challenging. So, for those of you who have lamented your whole life about no bust, here’s where you should be happy. You have a wide variety of options. Champion’s maximum support sports bra is the bomb. Seriously, your girls are going nowhere once this puppy is on. I may have worn this bra in ‘real life’ and feel as if I’ve had a breast lift.

Athleta

Again, worth the investment. Sturdy bras and a nice variety of tops.

3. Please, please, please, make sure that whatever you get is comfortable. Just like other clothing we put on our body, if you’re not able to move freely, it won’t help you achieve your fitness goals. Have you ever seen someone workout in a pencil skirt? I didn’t think so. Comfort is queen!

4. Wearing the right pair of shoes will make a huge difference in your workout. There are a kajillion shoes to choose from, and I will enlighten you to what I like later.

5.Have fun! Pick bright colors and patterns. I love getting funky with the types of tights out there. As long as they fit, I can move easily; I like to get creative with my workout clothes. It motivates me and when I workout with my group, it is definitely a conversation starter. Have you seen the fun graphic t-shirts? I have luck with:

Selecting the workout pieces that you like, feel good in and are comfortable will keep you focused.

Can you commit to moving your body in some way several times per week? Remember, you are doing this for YOU!  And now you’re going to rock your fitness goals since you now have the workout clothes that you like, are comfortable in and can feel great while you are getting stronger and more confident.
