In the world of style, and remember, you most certainly have it, necklines play a big role in fashion. If you’re like me, I had no idea which necklines were best for me.  You’ll thank me later, probably after you read the scoop on necklines.

BOAT NECK

Now I was so confused when I started learning about necklines. I thought boat neck and crew neck were the same. Nope!

The boat neck has a bit wider neckline and rests just a hair under the collarbone. Again, how did we get to be this age and not know this critical information?  Please keep reading.

The boat neck works best if you have:

  • Slight in Shoulders
  • Smaller on top than on the bottom
  • And again, the smaller to medium busted-ladies

CREW NECK

Probably one of the most basic and popular necklines is the Crew Neck.  Quick history lesson here. The name comes from the crew that manages a ship. They wore shirts with a tighter neck, and this style was strictly nautical for years. Who knew?

If you want to bring attention to your face and shoulders, the crew neck is perfect.

Crew necklines are most flattering when you have:

  • A slighter build on the top, we are talking busts, ladies, primarily small to medium
  • Wider shoulders
  • A long neck

The crew neck is a fave of the Classic Fashion Persona.

Button-up Neckline

The button-up neckline can work for most all body shapes. It can enhance the larger busted women when the fabric is more flowier (perfect for the Romantic Fashion Persona). This neckline can also work well for those who like a more tailored look-calling all Classic Fashion Personas.

Since this style looks good on most body types, the important takeaway here is to how to accessorize this versatile neckline. If you are wearing the drapey fabric, loose and flowy, you’ll want to offset the romantic style with a solid, bold necklace.

If you’re wearing a traditional button-up shirt, you’ll want to make it more feminine with dainty (don’t you just love that word?) jewelry.

Halter Neckline

My personal favorite neckline! This style is perfect for the gals with a bigger and fuller bust as it really highlights your shoulders. And, similar to the Button-Up neckline, the Halter can work with many body shapes.

Since the focal point is high in this style, you don’t want any jewelry on your neck to compete with the halter. So, guess what, get funky and creative with some fun, earrings! Work it, girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrls!

Scoop Neckline

This style is like what the vamp of a shoe does to our legs, except it makes our necks appear longer.

These necklines are best for:

  • Any bust size, really
  • Shorter neck or décolletage, that’s French for the neck and chest area (so fancy…)

What should you wear it with?

The beauty of the scoop neck is you can be versatile with your accessory choices. Get creative!

Congrats!  You can now work these necklines into your fabulous wardrobe choices!
