It’s All About the Music!

When I’m doing my individual workout like running, walking or dancing like’s everybody watching, I must have music.  In fact, if there’s no music, I cannot exercise. Yikes! It’s like the coffee connoisseurs who cannot drink java without cream. Guilty! So…what’s on your playlist?

Brief Boom Box History

I know you all remember the “Boom Box.” This invention was my best friend in junior high (remember, today this is now called Middle School) and was the hostess for many parties, even into college. Yes, I am that old. If anybody under 45 is by chance reading this blog, the boom box was considered the Iphone of the decade, and that would have been the 1970s.

My Playlist

Here’s a peek at some of the songs on my current playlist:

Lovely Day by Bill Withers:  Such a happy, motivating ditty.

Sugar by Maroon 5: Seriously, The. Best. Song. Ever. I may repeat this several times in my workout.

Highway to Hell-AC/DC: Does this need an explanation? I wanted so much to walk down the aisle at my wedding to this song, but several family members advised against doing this. Party poopers.

There’s Nothing Holding Me Back by Sean Mendez: Shouldn’t this be the anthem for #Fiercely50ish?

One More Time by Daft Punk: I feel like I’m in a club and get lost in the beat-so fun! Ha, when was the last time you were in a club?

Verdi Cries by Natalie Merchant: Instantly gives me the feels and I makes me very grateful to be #Fiercely50ish.

Rapper’s Delight by The Sugar Hill Gang: So old – school and makes me want to move!

University of Michigan Fight Song: Go Blue!

Entire Soundtrack from Big Little Lies: Epic Series. Music is the best!

Defying Gravity by Idina MenzelRiveting.

I Think I Love You by The Partridge Family: A staple from my childhood. RIP David Cassidy.

Happy by Pharrell: Who doesn’t like this song?

ANYTHING MADONNA: Say what you want about her,  but she is one Fiercely50ish bad ass!

I have requirements on my workout music. The following are non-negotiable when it comes to what makes my playlist:

  • Must Love the Music
  • Tunes Must Motivate
  • Makes You Happy

I create different playlists for my workouts. When I’m going to do some really crazy cardio, it’s full of loud, drum banging songs that keep me pushing myself.  One song is better than the next (on purpose, it keeps me motivated).

I have the best intentions to create a new playlist each month. This doesn’t always happen, but I try to mix up my music so I don’t get bored.

I was a freshman in college when the Walkman was introduced, so I am eternally grateful for the advancement in technology throughout the decades and how I can include music of all genres into my fitness routines. It would be really hard to run with the boom box.

Please share what’s on your playlist?

#Fiercely50ish!

  1. So jealous of you all who can listen while you work out. I swim and just listen to my breath and the sound of the water—it’s relaxing. But it ain’t no AC/DC Highway to Hell!
